The Foundation Cigar Company Olmec line was created by Nicholas Melillo as a tribute to the Olmec civilization, one of the earliest major civilizations of Mesoamerica and a culture closely connected to the regions where tobacco and cacao have been cultivated for centuries.

Olmec is offered in both Claro and Maduro versions, with this Claro using a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers grown in Estelí and Jalapa. Foundation describes some of the filler tobacco as being bale-aged for three years before production, adding another layer of depth to an already tobacco-forward blend.

Despite being called Claro, don't expect a mild or particularly light cigar. The name claro distinguishes this wrapper from the darker Maduro version of Olmec. The Claro still delivers plenty of richness and strength, with the San Andrés wrapper contributing earth, cocoa, and spice alongside the heavier Nicaraguan core.

At 5 x 50, the Robusto keeps that profile concentrated without requiring the time commitment of one of the larger Olmec vitolas.

Tasting Notes

Expect a rich, full-bodied profile with dark chocolate and earth leading the way, followed by espresso, black pepper, and warm spice. A subtle natural sweetness develops underneath the darker flavors, helping balance the strength and richness through the finish.
