Drew Estate Tabak Especial Negra Cigar Review

Tabak Especial Negra Cigar Review

Some cigars hit the spot after a long day, and some cigars make the day. For me, the Drew Estate Tabak Especial Negra falls into that second category. I lit this one up after a workout and a long evening of wrangling kids, by the time I finally sat down, I needed something that would let me hit pause. And I’ve got to say, this cigar delivered from foot to nub.

I’ve smoked plenty of Drew Estate over the years, and nobody does infused cigars like they do. But the Tabak line is special, it’s where premium long-filler tobacco meets the rich character of coffee flavored cigars done right. The Negra is the bolder side of the line, leaning into espresso rather than light roast. Let’s break it down.

Appearance & First Impressions

Tabak Especial Negra - Initial Impressions

Pulling the Tabak Especial Negra Robusto from the humidor, the first thing I noticed was the toothy texture on the dark Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Mine had a few noticeable veins, but overall, the cigar felt firm in the hand with no soft spots. The cap was flawless, and the signature shaggy foot stood out right away.

On the cold draw, I picked up a sweet espresso aroma with just a trace of cocoa. The wrapper showed off the kind of dark tobacco leaves that promise richness right from the start. Before I even lit up, I had a good feeling this stick was going to deliver.

First Third – Coffee and Chocolate Take the Lead

First Third Tabak Especial Negra

The shaggy foot gave me an unwrapped preview right away, letting the filler burn before the wrapper caught. That first puff? Sweet coffee with a hit of milk chocolate, almost like biting into a chocolate-covered espresso bean. The aroma reminded me of standing in line at my favorite coffee shop, but with that earthy backbone of real tobacco keeping it grounded.

The draw was perfect, not too tight, not too airy, and the smoke output was thick and creamy. Right away I knew this wasn’t going to be one of those cheap-tasting infused cigars. The flavors blended in naturally, like they belonged.

Second Third – Balance and Medium Strength

Second Third Tabak Especial Negra

Moving into the second third, the sweetness dialed back a bit and new notes entered the mix, leather, peanut, and toast. That extra complexity made me slow down and really savor it. The smoke stayed creamy and rich, and the aroma had a light sweetness that was just plain enjoyable.

The burn line held strong, with ash clinging for about an inch at a time. I did have to correct one small touch-up, but it bounced back easily and kept on trucking. Strength stayed medium, with a nice balance of sweetness and earthiness.

This was the “sweet spot” of the cigar for me. Complex, balanced, and just flat-out enjoyable.

Final Third – Espresso and Burnt Sugar

Final Third Tabak Especial Negra

By the time I hit the final third, the espresso notes came front and center, pushing the milk chocolate into the background. The sweetness was still there, but subtle, like the last sip of a strong coffee where the sugar's mostly gone.

The body kicked up just a notch, still a medium-strength smoke overall, but with more boldness in the retrohale. The flavor shift kept things interesting all the way down, which isn’t something you can say about every infused cigar.

Even at the end, the draw stayed smooth, and the burn never got hot or harsh. Just a clean, flavorful finish that came close to what I’d call a perfect burn session.

Construction and Performance

Tabak Negra - Exposed Foot

One of the things Drew Estate nails consistently is construction. The Tabak Especial Negra Robusto burned evenly, the draw was spot-on, and the ash stayed firm. That kind of reliability matters, especially when you’re sitting back after a long day and just want to relax.

I didn’t have to fight this cigar at all. It performed exactly the way a premium cigar should, from the shaggy foot to the nub.

Price & Value

At around $10–12 a stick, it’s on the higher end of infused cigars, but worth it for the craftsmanship and smoking experience. A Robusto gave me close to an hour of burn time, which is perfect for an evening unwind without overcommitting.

For someone who enjoys coffee-infused cigars, this one earns a spot in the humidor. It’s not a gimmick; it’s one of those premium cigars with flavor that feels natural and balanced.

Final Verdict: Tabak Especial Negra

Final Verdict

I’ll be honest, this one caught me a little off guard in the best way. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the Drew Estate Tabak Especial Negra balances its coffee infusion with genuine premium cigar tobacco. It’s a thoughtfully blended cigar that shows off Drew Estate’s craftsmanship, giving you the flavor you expect without losing the backbone of real tobacco.

Drew Estate has always been willing to push the boundaries, just look at their Acid line, but the Tabak Especial Negra feels like the sweet spot. It has enough coffee-and-chocolate sweetness to stand out, but also enough strength, body, and authentic tobacco character to keep even traditional cigar guys interested.

For me, this cigar isn’t an everyday smoke, but it’s one I want to keep in the humidor for those nights when I’m craving something rich, creamy, and rewarding. And when I hand it to a friend who thinks infused cigars aren’t “serious,” I know he’s going to walk away impressed.

If you’re looking for a coffee-infused cigar that delivers on flavor, construction, and value, this one earns its place. The Negra shows what Drew Estate does best, taking a bold idea and completing it with a cigar that deserves respect.

Built strong, smoked smooth, the Tabak Especial Negra earns its place as a rewarding coffee-infused cigar for the right moment.
