Some cigars are built to impress you with strength. Others are built to simply smoke well and fit into real life. The Plasencia Cigars Reserva Original falls into that second category.
This is one of those cigars you can grab in the morning with coffee or later in the day when you want something smooth that doesn’t demand all your attention. It’s known for being the world’s first fully certified organic cigar, but more importantly, it smokes well, creamy, nutty, and easygoing without being boring.
I smoked the Reserva Original Robusto for this cigar review, and here’s how it played out.

The Plasencia family has been growing premium tobacco for five generations, and they’re one of the biggest names behind the scenes in the cigar world. Long before Plasencia Reserva Original cigars hit shelves, their tobacco was already being used by major brands across the industry.
What makes the Plasencia Reserva Original different, and the reason this line gets talked about so much, is that it’s made from certified organic tobacco. The tobacco is certified through the Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA), meaning no pesticides and no insecticides were used in the growing process.
This is an organic cigar, but not in a gimmicky way. It still tastes like a proper premium tobacco blend, just cleaner and more natural. The tobacco comes from Nicaragua, including well-known growing regions like Estelí and Jalapa, and it shows in the flavor.
This line came out nationally in 2017 and has built a reputation as a solid everyday smoke that still feels like a quality, well-made cigar.

Before lighting it, I took a second to look it over. The wrapper had that natural brown color you’d expect from an organic-grown leaf. Nothing oily-looking, just a clean, earthy appearance. It felt firm in the hand and was well put together.
Off the foot, the aroma leaned woody with a little natural sweetness. On the cold draw, I got roasted nuts and something that reminded me of graham cracker. Right then I figured this was going to be more about balance than strength.

Right from the first few draws, this cigar made it clear what kind of ride I was on. The smoke came off soft and creamy, with roasted nuts leading the way. There was a light cedar backbone, but nothing sharp or dry about it.
The sweetness showed up early too, not candy sweet, more like that natural caramel note you get from good, well-aged tobacco. It reminded me of coffee with just a touch of cream in it.
The draw was effortless, and the smoke felt smooth on the palate. Nothing sharp or harsh, just smooth, natural flavor from the start. This is one of those openings where you settle in fast and realize you’re not going to have to babysit the cigar.
Strength sat comfortably in that true medium bodied zone, enough body to keep it interesting but nowhere near heavy.

As I got into the second third, the cigar didn’t crank up in strength, it just started layering in more character. The nuttiness got deeper, shifting from light roasted nuts to something a little richer and toastier. That cedar note stepped forward too, giving the profile more structure without drying it out. The sweetness was still there, but it felt more like natural tobacco sweetness now instead of caramel leading the show.
This is where the cigar really showed its balance. Nothing jumped out aggressively. Everything just worked together. Creaminess stayed on the palate, and the smoke kept that soft, rounded feel with every draw.
It’s the kind of middle section where you realize the cigar is winning you over with consistency and I found it amazing how it easy was to keep going back for the next puff. Still medium in strength. Still smooth. Just a little more depth than the first third.

Heading into the final third, the cigar held its character instead of flipping the script. The wood and nut notes stayed out front, with a bit more earth coming into the mix. That creamy texture never really left, and the sweetness backed off just enough to let the natural tobacco flavor carry things home.
What I appreciated most here was how clean it stayed. No harsh turn, no bitterness creeping in, and no sudden strength spike. The smoke stayed cool, the flavors stayed clear, and the finish had that same smooth, slightly creamy feel hanging around on the palate after each draw.
For a cigar in this price range, the consistency all the way through the last third really stands out. It finished just as balanced as it started, which isn’t always the case with medium-bodied cigars.
Performance on this one was exactly what you hope for when you grab a cigar and just want it to do its job. The burn line stayed straight the whole way down, and the ash held firm without flaking. I didn’t have to touch it up once, which let me just sit back and enjoy the smoke instead of messing with a lighter.
The draw was right in that sweet spot, open enough to get plenty of smoke, but still with a little resistance so it didn’t feel loose. Every puff delivered the same smooth, steady output, and the cigar never got hot or bitter on me. It’s one of those sticks you can trust. Light it, smoke it, and it behaves.
This is where the Reserva Original really makes a strong case for itself. With most sizes landing around the $9–$10 range per cigar, you’re getting certified organic tobacco, solid construction, and a balanced, medium-bodied profile that works just about any time of day.
This cigar wins on how easy it is to enjoy and how consistent it stays from start to finish. That makes it a great one to keep stocked when you want something reliable without feeling like you’re burning through a “special occasion” stick. For the quality you’re getting, the value here is tough to argue with.

Yeah, most definitely, especially if your wheelhouse leans toward smooth, balanced cigars instead of powerhouses. If you like medium-bodied smokes with creamy texture, natural sweetness, and clean tobacco flavor, this one fits right into rotation. It’s approachable and there's enough nuance to keep it interesting.
This is the kind of cigar that works in real-life moments, morning coffee, a quiet afternoon, or winding down in the evening. It’s a well-made cigar that does exactly what it’s supposed to.

A smooth, easygoing Nicaraguan puro with roasted nuts, cedar, and a creamy natural sweetness, backed by dependable construction and everyday-smoke value.
A cigar like the Reserva Original deserves to be smoked the way it was intended, fresh, properly humidified, and ready to go when you are. Cigar storage makes a bigger difference than most people realize.
At After Action Cigars, we’re picky about how cigars are kept and shipped because that first draw should taste the way the blender meant it to, no dry sticks and no disappointment.
If this sounds like your kind of everyday smoke, you can find the Reserva Original and other Plasencia cigars for sale online and have them delivered straight to your door, ready for your next quiet moment.
