The La Aroma de Cuba Reserva is one of those cigars I’ve been meaning to review for a while now. Honestly, I’m not sure how I didn’t get to it sooner, especially after reviewing one of my go-to La Aroma de Cuba blends, the Mi Amor.
I smoked the Belicoso for this review, and right away it reminded me why this one sticks with me. You get dark chocolate and black pepper up front, with espresso, leather, and that underlying semi-sweet note right behind it. Everything works together here, and it’s exactly why I keep coming back to it.
If you enjoy bold, darker profiles, this is an easy yes. This sits in that medium to full range and leans into big, rich notes, dark chocolate, espresso, coffee, and spice, without turning harsh or one-dimensional. It’s layered, full, and has just enough natural sweetness to keep everything in check.
Would I smoke this first thing in the morning? Not even close. But for an evening cigar, especially after a good meal, this is exactly what I reach for.

Produced at the My Father factory in Nicaragua, the Reserva builds off the success of the Mi Amor line but takes it a step further. If you've already read my review of the Mi Amor, you know that I’ve always been a big fan of the Mi Amor. That blend already delivers a great mix of chocolate, coffee, and balance. The Reserva takes what works there and turns it up.
With higher primings on both the wrapper and filler, this version pushes more into spice, richness, and overall intensity. It’s essentially an amped-up version of the Mi Amor, bolder, deeper, and more aggressive in the best way.
A lot of Nicaraguan cigars with San Andrés wrappers lean too far into sweetness. This one doesn’t. It brings real spice into the mix, and that balance between richness and spice is what makes it stand out.

Before lighting, the wrapper gives off that classic San Andrés profile: earth, cocoa, and a darker, almost malty sweetness. The cold draw had a solid resistance, with cocoa, light spice, and a bit of coffee already coming through.
Once lit, it doesn’t ease you into things. The smoke is thick right away, and the profile leans into espresso and pepper early.

Right out of the gate, the La Aroma de Cuba Reserva hits with dark chocolate and black pepper, backed by espresso and leather. It’s rich and full, but still comes across as layered and complex.
There’s a noticeable malty quality here that ties everything together, along with just enough semi-sweet chocolate to keep it just the right amount of sweetness.

Around the midway point, things start to settle in. The spice pulls back just enough to let more of the coffee, earth, and that subtle sweetness come forward. This is where the balance really becomes evident.
You’re getting those espresso, leather, and darker notes working together across the palate, with a slight creaminess smoothing things out.
This is also where it separates itself. A lot of cigars in this range lean too far one way, either too sweet or too sharp. This one finds a perfect middle ground, and man, is it nice!

In the final third, the strength edges up a bit, but never gets crazy. The profile leans darker, more hickory, cocoa, and espresso, with the pepper coming back on the finish.
The sweetness fades into the background, but it’s still there enough to keep things from turning harsh. It closes out strong, which is exactly what you want from a blend like this.
Construction is exactly what you’d expect from My Father. The wrapper had a clean, slightly oily look, and it felt firm in hand. The cap was clean and easy to clip, and the draw stayed right where it should be the entire time.
Burn was consistent with no major touch-ups needed, and the smoke output stayed thick and steady from start to finish.

For me, this is one of those cigars that just checks all the boxes. It takes everything I like about the Mi Amor and pushes it further, more richness, more spice, more intensity, without losing control of the blend.
You don’t always get that combination of bold flavor and balance in the same cigar, but somehow this one pulls it off.
Yes, especially if you enjoy richer, more full-flavored cigars. This is one I keep coming back to. It’s consistent, it delivers, and it fits perfectly into that evening rotation when you want something with depth. Plus, at this price point, it’s easy to justify keeping a few, or even a full box, on hand.
I think it's safe to say that, for many, this is not going to be a cigar that you're going to be reaching for as a morning cigar. This is after dinner. Steak, dessert, something heavier, and then this.
It pairs perfectly with coffee, especially if you like darker roasts. And honestly, the next time I have one, I’ll absolutely be pairing it with a bourbon. You’re looking at around an hour with it, and it’s worth taking your time.

A bold, rich, and well-balanced cigar that delivers dark chocolate, espresso, and spice without losing control. Best suited for smokers who enjoy a deeper, more intense profile, especially in the evening.
